Dorothea Lasher Kelley, 102, Formerly Of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Dorothea Lashere Kelley, a former resident of Poughkeepsie, died Friday, March 18. She was 102.

Born May 11, 1913, in Tivoli, she was the first child of William and Gladys Potter Lasher. She began her nursing career as a 1935 Vassar Brothers Hospital School of Nursing graduate.

She worked for many years at Vassar Hospital and concluded her nursing career in 1971 from Wappinger Falls Central School District. She lived in Poughkeepsie before relocating to North Myrtle Beach, S.C. in 1998. She remained an active member of the Tidewater Plantation community. In 1938, she married Eugene F. Kelley, Sr.

She is survived by her son, Eugene F. Kelley Jr. and his wife Regina of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two grandsons, Thomas Kelley and his wife Crystal, and their children, Kyla and Griffin of Wilmington, Mass. and Brian Kelley and his wife Deborah of Florence, S.C.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene F. Kelley Sr.; brother, Eugene Lasher; and daughter, Cheryl M. Kelley.

A burial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 25 at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
